Abstract: Freshwater biodiversity in India's rivers and lakes is essential for ecological stability and supports diverse ecosystems that provide critical services to both wildlife and human communities. However, these ecosystems face numerous threats, including pollution, habitat degradation, overexploitation, invasive species, and climate change impacts. Effective conservation strategies are imperative to safeguard these invaluable resources and ensure their sustainable management. This paper examines the current challenges facing India's freshwater biodiversity, discusses key aspects of conservation efforts, and emphasizes the importance of integrated approaches for maintaining ecosystem health and supporting sustainable development.
