Abstract: Cloud computing has revolutionized how organizations store and process data, offering scalability, flexibility, and cost efficiency. However, it also introduces significant challenges in data protection. As data moves beyond traditional on-premises environments, ensuring its security and privacy becomes a complex task. This paper explores the primary challenges associated with protecting data in cloud environments and how cryptographic techniques such as encryption, encryption key management, and the use of hardware security modules (HSMs) can mitigate these challenges. We also provide practical examples of cryptographic solutions tailored to address data protection concerns in cloud infrastructures.
