Abstract: Unregulated deep sand mining has emerged as a major environmental concern, particularly in riverine ecosystems. This study critically examines the consequences of deep sand mining and its effects on the fluvial topography and habitats along the banks of the Sone River, with a special reference to Dehri town. The research assesses the extent of geomorphological alterations caused by excessive sand extraction, leading to changes in riverbed morphology, bank erosion and channel instability. Additionally, it explores the ecological implications, including habitat degradation, loss of biodiversity, and the impact on aquatic and riparian species. This research contributes to the broader discourse on river conservation and offers policy recommendations for sustainable riverbank management in the Sone River basin
Keywords: Fluvial topography, groundwater depletion, biodiversity, turbidity.
