Abstract: Banana is the most important staple food and widely grown and consumed fruit in Ethiopia. It has a great socioeconomic importance contributing much to the overall well-being of the country including food security and income generation. Even though, the country has a great potential as an export commodity, its production is mainly meant for the local market and for home consumption. Banana value chain was not developed yet and a number of problems tend to face against the production and marketing of this fruit in the country. Furthermore, the measures taken to solve these problems were limited due to inadequate researches. Therefore, the aim of the review was to show production potential and productivity of banana and its trends and the challenge and constraint that banana value chain face in Ethiopia. To review the lesson different; author’s findings and reports were used. Most of the authors used a tool like value chain map; SCP to investigate market and supply chain problems and PESTEC tools to find agronomic problems that affect banana value chain.
